Synopsis: She calls herself Lady Justice. And once she has chosen a man as her target, she turns herself into a tall blonde or a curvaceous redhead, makes herself as alluring and seductive as possible to them. Once they are in her grasp, they are powerless.

The first victim is wealthy businessman Nigel McEnroy. His company’s human resources department has already paid out settlements to a couple of his young victims—but they don’t know that his crimes go far beyond workplace harassment. Lady Justice knows. And in one shocking night of brutality, she makes him pay a much steeper price.

Now Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, are combing through the evidence of McEnroy’s secret life. His compulsive need to record his misdeeds provides them with a wide range of suspects, but the true identity of Lady Justice remains elusive. It’s a challenging case, made even more difficult by McEnroy’s widow, who reacts to the investigation with fury, denial, and threats. Meanwhile, Lady Justice’s criminal crusade is escalating rapidly, and if Eve can’t stop this vigilante, there’s no telling how much blood may be spilled…

I read Vendetta in Death around July, in time for Comic Con. The theme of this story, complete with a female vigilante who was correcting all the wrongs of men, was such a perfect fit for the time. We are constantly surrounded by the wrongs of men, especially in the past year. And while I don’t condone what was done, because hello? Murder! – Well, I still cheered.

With the 49th book of the In Death series, Vendetta in Death was perfectly titled. The theme for many of the In Death series is revenge and vendettas, but I have not yet read a story where Eve and Roarke go against a self-made superhero killing men who brutally hurt women. There are times when it is hard to read through the murders, the cases, and the victims. But it is extremely fascinating to see the inner musings of Eve’s mind and the path she takes to solve the mystery.

With book 49, one would expect that the “recipe” of the In Death books grow weak. But I digress, because J.D. Robb always finds a way to reinvent the wheel and show a new side of Eve. As for Roarke, he is the constant in the series, as well as for Eve. He is a character that I always look forward to.
