Synopsis: The Rule Breaker

Master vampire Ian is unrepentant, shameless…and every shade of wicked. He’s made one too many enemies in his two centuries of existence, including Dagon, a demon who now lays claim to his soul. Ian’s only chance to escape Dagon is to join forces with a Law Guardian, but he’s never been able to abide by the rules for long.

The Law Maker

Veritas’ normal role is police, judge and jury to reprobates like Ian. But she has her own ax to grind with Dagon, so if she can use Ian as bait…well, all’s fair in law and war. As they scour supernatural hotspots to perfect their trap, Veritas soon realizes Ian’s devil-may-care, roguish image hides something much more powerful. And Ian discovers that Veritas has shocking secrets of her own. As they’re drawn to each other with a passion as intense as their peril, either love or justice will prevail. But each will have devastating consequences…

A book about Ian. I didn’t know I needed this book when I first read the original series, Night Huntress. Then when I read the other companion series, Night Huntress World and Night Prince, I thought Vlad’s story was what I had been missing. Then now, Ian?

Yes. Ian. The Night Rebel.

Frost has once again reinvented this beloved world. She has brought so many familiar details but with a different outlook if a character that I enjoyed. I loved this story. Two people, that had a terrible past, who recovered and grew into their own. Two who never paid attention to each other, nor did they care about each other. Opposites attract until you get to know each other deep within, and this was the case for Ian and Veritas.

I thought I knew Ian. But as I continued to read, I was reminded of all the different traits that would reveal themselves throughout the entirety of this world. Where I originally thought him as a villain in the original Night Huntress series, I slowly came to consider him as an ally, and then a true friend, to the various characters in Frost’s world. I was surprised at Ian’s history, once he revealed truths about himself, and it changed how I felt about him.

Veritas was another character that I slowly warmed up to. As a supporting character in other books, and mostly in an official authority capacity, I only knew her through the roles as a Law Guardian. But it wasn’t until the last book with Cat and Bones that I really warmed up to her. When I read that that topic was touched on in this book, it made me love this story more. Veritas’ background and history? Who she really is? It was great. I loved every bit of it, going from paranormal and into a touch of fantasy.

I am a huge fan of Frost, if you can’t already tell. I love her writing style, her penchant for details, and especially how she develops her characters. While I was able to see other characters in previous books, it gave me an overview of this family Frost has created.

I inhaled this book, and I can’t wait for more.
